According to a report by the China Photovoltaic Industry Association (CPIA), China's solar power capacity surged to a record high in 2022, driven by a combination of government support, falling costs for solar panels, and increasing demand for renewable energy. The report states that China added 63.4 gigawatts (GW) of solar power capacity in 2022, an increase of 45% compared to the previous year.

This growth was driven by both utility-scale solar projects and distributed solar installations on rooftops and in other locations. China now has a total solar power capacity of 314.4 GW, making it the largest solar market in the world. The country has set a target of reaching 1,200 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030, including 680 GW of solar power.

The growth of the solar industry in China has had a significant impact on the global market, as China is the largest producer and exporter of solar panels in the world. The country's dominance in the industry has led to concerns about the impact on the environment and the global supply chain, but the Chinese government has taken steps to address these issues and promote sustainable development.
